Matt Leibel

MATT LEIBEL, CTO @ XOMETRY.

Please describe your company and your position there.

Xometry is a manufacturing marketplace. We try to match people who need manufacturing needs with manufacturers through our platform. Most other manufacturing options are based on knowing directly who suppliers are, but Xometry created a virtual manufacturing plant. We use data science and machine learning to price items and match good partners who can do work with jobs that are available. I am Matthew Leibel, SVP of technology.

For what projects/services did your company hire Xyonix?

We have a lot of data about customers, partners, transactions, and interactions. Xyonix helped us analyze data and look for potential insights from data from the data we already have. We hired Xyonix to build machine learning models to help customers be more successful on our platform and influence them to make an order vs just quoting. On the partner side, Xyonix helped us in understanding why certain partners are fierce and others come and go quickly.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were searching online and using our connections to find a machine learning consulting group. We talked to 15-20 different companies. We chose to go with Xyonix because they understood our problem better than other firms. We are in the business of selling services not parts and felt like Xyonix was oriented in the way we need. We found Xyonix in a web search and contacted them. During our initial call, Deep talked about our problem differently than other firms and understood the problem we were facing.

Describe the project in detail and walk through their service package.

We provided Xyonix with access to our data and helped the team to understand how our business works. We chose not to solve our problems internally because we feel that it's nice to have an outside firm's opinion and we didn't have enough capacity on our end. The project consisted of Xyonix running a number of models to try and understand our data with great success in the end. Currently, we have a new proposal in the works to continue our work with them in the future.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their
positions?

I worked with Xyonix’s co-founder Deep who helped guide the project and Xyonix’s co-founder Carsten who completed the bulk of the work.

How effective was the workflow between your team and Xyonix?

It worked well. Early on it was more us being overloaded with work. Upfront it was a little slow, but communication improved as regular checkups were scheduled.

What did you find most impressive or unique about Xyonix?

Deep is an expert in his occupation. He knows what he's doing and clearly understands this world. He was very honest about what he will and won't do. Very structured throughout with different escalating engagements through each stage. Deep upfront told us he won’t do anything that doesn't add value which leads to actual results. Clear expertise in the company.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

When we were stumbling a bit on our side it would have been nice if Deep would have put a little more pressure on us and say are you in or out instead of being too patient.
