Our client noticed two issues: college students were dropping out more often, and students lacked regular and sustained career advice throughout their education years. Our client’s existing chat system was good at providing answers to fact oriented questions, but they wanted to create a smart, state of the art, extended dialog oriented chat-based helper to engage students deeply on a variety of topics related to early dropouts and give top tier career advice to prepare students for strong post graduation options.

The Solution

Development of a Conversational Application

We began our journey using the Xyonix Pathfinder process, which allowed us to build out a detailed understanding of the existing system and the client’s desired outcomes. We then outlined a robust AI strategy and project plan to help our client get there. We focused on creating a virtual concierge-like application that emulates sophisticated human-like interactions. By leveraging advanced AI and natural language processing, this application aimed to provide in-depth, conversational career-related dialog and advisory services.

Content Management and Integration

Our methodology included a comprehensive classification of student inquiries, ensuring that our client’s chatbot’s responses were accurate and relevant. By harnessing content directly from academic institutions and augmenting it with data from web crawls, we crafted a system that not only provided personalized advice but also maintained the integrity of the academic content while mitigating known LLM challenges of hallucinations. This dual approach facilitated the integration of a conversational model that respects academic standards and adheres to the institution’s constraints while pushing the boundaries of traditional advisory services.

Collaborative Prototyping and Deployment

Through regular, in-depth discussions and demonstrations, Xyonix engaged in rapid iterative prototyping and demonstrations, resulting in the seamless integration of the application through well-documented APIs and Docker containers. This facilitated a seamless transition towards final deployment, ensuring their team was well prepared for integration into their existing systems.
